Set in mature gardens, The Old School House, Tillmouth, was built in 1867 as a school and headmaster’s residence, providing education for children from surrounding farms and hamlets. After closing in 1965, it was sympathetically converted into a private dwelling. The Hodgson family have made it their home and will offer you a friendly, warm welcome.
The Old School House is situated perfectly for excursions and explorations in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. We, as Northumbrians, are passionate about our heritage and all it has to offer, and look forward to sharing it with you.
Complete with its own private stairs and bathroom, the Suite is tastefully furnished to a high standard with king-size bed, goose-down quilt, beautifully soft bed linen, fluffy towels and comfortable chairs. There is also a ground floor spacious ensuite single, with the same standard and facilities as the double.
It is equipped with hospitality tray and home baking, fridge, TV/DVD/radio/CD and a mini library.
There are also many little extras to make your stay more comfortable.
Before setting out on your day’s adventure, enjoy delicious breakfasts made from locally sourced produce such as Craster kippers, Chainbridge Honey, free-range eggs and home made preserves.
Special diets can be catered for; please advise us of your requirements when booking.
Upon arrival, there is complimentary afternoon tea, with home baking.
We are situated in an ideal location to reach many Northumbrian and Borders’ attractions including a wealth of castles, historic towns (such as Alnwick and Berwick), battle sites (such as nearby Flodden) and wonderful countryside.
There is splendid walking to be had in the Cheviot hills or more relaxing strolls along some of our marvellous unspoilt beaches. For nature lovers, a variety of stunning landscapes and abundance of wildlife will surely delight. For those wishing to head further afield, the train station at Berwick is a mere 20 minutes drive away, providing excellent access to Edinburgh and Newcastle (40 minutes).
This is an ideal area for walks and we provide literature and other information about the many routes and destinations within the vicinity and beyond.
Supplement applies for 1 person occupying a double room.
