"One fine summer afternoon, years ago, sat on the banks of the river with friends, a picnic and some fine wine, glancing through the arches of the old Atcham bridge with the swans gliding across the river and the late afternoon haze starting to rise. I mentioned to our friends that this was one of the most beautiful places I had seen." With the Hotel ideally set on the banks of the River Severn, the beautiful seventeenth Century St Eata's Church directly behind, and just opposite the wonderful National Trust stately Home of "Attingham Park" set in 200 acres of parkland, we decided this is where our future lay.

Ten years on we decided to purchase the Mytton and Mermaid and create something special. A casual Country House Hotel where people would feel comfortable, where food will be of an excellent standard, and service will be friendly and efficient. In short a place where guests will want to return to time and time again.

'Mad Jack's Bar' Named after Jack Mytton, a local squire who squandered his fortune and ended up in paupers prison. Legend has it that Mad Jack would let a fox loose in the Hotel, then let a pack of hounds in after it, following closely by himself chasing them on horseback. Hence: Mad Jack's Bar. Which is open all day with it's log fire and comfy sofa's, creating a relaxed informal atmosphere. Serving a selection of fine wines by the glass and guest ales from local brewers. We have an excellent local reputation for serving fresh imaginative food. 'The Restaurant' Antique oak tables, candles and freshly cut flowers alongside excellent food and fine wines from around the world, go hand in hand with friendly, efficient service. Food has always been a big passion of ours and we like people to come to us for something a little different. Our seasonal menu's incorporate local ingredients to inspire a modern British menu.

We have eighteen bedrooms, all ensuite with the rooms in the main House having fantastic views over surrounding countryside. There are six rooms situated on the ground floor in our converted stables beside our suntrapped courtyard. The Riverside drawing room is a quiet room to retreat to, overlooking the gardens and river. A place to read your book, write that letter or simply enjoy some afternoon tea. We are situated just over 3 miles from Shrewsbury town centre, which is a fantastic Medieval Town with no less than 66o listed buildings. The surrounding area has some of the most glorious countryside with a wealth of interesting places to visit. Walk across Wenlock edge (inspired by A.E. Houseman) or climb the hills and valleys of Church Stretton and Cardingmill valley. You can explore Ironbridge and see the introduction to the Industrial Revolution and the many museums located there
