Grade II Listed, luxury Georgian hotel set in glorious surroundings on the famous River Tweed. A perfect location for touring both sides of the border and ideal for fishing, horse riding, walking and golf. For more than 200 years, the Collingwood Arms has provided a focal point for colourful local community; a former coaching inn linking Edinburgh with the south. The bedrooms are a perfect marriage of traditional style and modern convenience, bringing together antique furniture and period bathrooms with digital TV, WiFi and outstandingly comfortable beds. All 15 twin and double rooms have bath or shower rooms en-suite, with deluxe doubles featuring roll top baths with separate showers, all finished to the very highest specification. Families are well catered for too, with adjoining rooms and cots available for babies.
The Collingwood Arms takes its name from the merchant family which owned it up until 1955. There are strong ties with Northumberland's 19th Century naval hero, Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, who served under Nelson around the time the hotel was built. Indeed, our 15 bedrooms take their names from the 15 ships in Collingwood's 'van' at the Battle of Trafalgar. In many respects, the Collingwood Arms is a modern hotel, yet the layout and scale has changed little since Collingwood's day. In the Entrance Hall guests are greeted in front of an open log fire, whilst the library offers a homely and restful retreat, much as it would have done for stagecoach passengers in years gone by.
The hotel bar upholds the Borders reputation for great hospitality. Warm oak and antique leather shape a relaxed atmosphere where friends, old and new, enjoy local beers, thought-provoking wines and a wide selection of Scottish whiskies. The subtle splendour of the Dining Room and Brasserie makes every occasion special; serving only the best freshly prepared and locally sourced ingredients. Both menus change daily and are accompanied by a carefully selected wine list and cheerful service. At the rear of the hotel, the tranquil gardens offer the chance to eat 'Al Fresco' during the summer months.
While at the Collingwood Arms, a wide variety of activities are right on your doorstep. The area has great year-round appeal and sporting attraction; so whether it be fishing, golf, horse-riding, cycling or walking, you are sure to find the activity of your choice close at hand. The historic village of Cornhill is surrounded by spectacular, open countryside, characterised by the deep valley of the River Tweed and the tall peaks of the Cheviot Hills. Northumberland’s coastline is widely regarded as being among the best in the UK, and the attractions of the Scottish Borders make it one of our nation’s most popular holiday destinations..
Whatever the purpose of your visit; our team will endeavour to meet your every need. Should you have any specific requirements, we hope you will not hesitate to ask.
