Chalice Hill House is a Georgian Manor House set in its own grounds in the heart of Glastonbury. Although at the centre of town it backs onto the legendary Chalice Hill and is shielded from the bustle of the town by oak trees. A path runs from the house through the fields to Glastonbury Tor and the famous St Michaels Tower. A short walk takes you down to the high street with its cornucopia of new age shopping. The house and its large gracious rooms has recently been restored and redecorated with flair and taste, the style is modern classic and retains many of the original features. The bedrooms are exceptionally comfortable; both rooms have their own modern bathrooms en-suite.
The house is full of original works of art by the owner, friends and family. There are occasional art workshops which guests can enrol on. The garden is large and very pretty and has views of the town and the Somerset levels beyond, with a wonderful evening view of the medieval St Johns Church Spire with the sun behind it. One of the main features of the gardens is the ancient (and much hugged) oak trees which have stood for 300 years.
In the summer, exotic Indian tents and marquees are erected in the garden, beautifully lined with block printed fabrics from Rajastan. On warm sunny mornings, breakfast can be served in a tent in the garden, looking up to the magical Chalice Hill. Breakfast at Chalice Hill House is locally sourced and organic produce used where possible. Both vegetarians and carnivores can be catered for, and there is a full English breakfast for those who would like it. For the more faint hearted there are delicious pastries and breads either from the hostesses kitchen or the wonderful craft bakery in Glastonbury.
There are televisions in the rooms for those who are not going out to spiritual workshops or dance festivals and there are many books on the local legends and preoccupations with ley lines, crop circles, labyrinths Da Vinci Codes, stone circles, Arthurian legends etc.
